Red Mountain Elevated News and Upcoming Dates

Greetings from the Red Mountain Elevated Team. Now that our first harvest is complete and the wines are settling in for barrel aging, we wanted to take a few minutes to share our first update with you.  

TIER ONE CLOSED, TIER TWO OPEN

First and foremost, thank you!  The response to the announcement of the Red Mountain Elevated project has been, frankly, overwhelming.  Our Tier 1 allocations list is now closed and we have started Tier 2 wait list. We are confident that we have produced enough wine to be able to offer an allocation to all of Tier 1 of the first vintage when the wines are ready for release in late 2020 or early 2021 - more on that later. Those on the Tier 2 will be offered an allocation in the order of registration, if wine remains after the initial offer.

HARVEST UPDATE

The 2018 harvest was a great success and for this initial vintage the fruit is composed solely of Rhône varieties. We are impressed with the color and structure of both the Syrah and Grenache and look forward to seeing the wine evolve in the aging process. Some Viognier was also brought in that we believe, even at this early phase, represents the some of the best we have ever tasted from Washington State.

VINEYARD NAMED

In case you missed the news, Cameron Myhrvold and Ryan Johnson have adopted the WeatherEye Vineyard moniker as the name of the vineyard going forward. Our wine will carry the WeatherEye Vineyard designation when released.

FIRST TASTE, AT TASTE WA

We have been invited to preview the first wines from this vineyard on March 30 at the Taste Washington Seminar, Extreme Viticulture: Higher, Deeper, Bolder, moderated by Sean Sullivan from the Wine Enthusiast.  Ryan Johnson of WeatherEye Vineyard will sit on the panel with Chris and Marty in attendance.  A barrel sample of the 2018 vintage Grenache will be offered for attendees to try. A first and exclusive preview!

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Auction of Washington Wines, Private Barrel Auction - August 15, 2019 - We will be participating in the invitation-only event this summer and will be donating five cases of our first vintage. In conjunction with this event in August, we expect to be able to reveal the final brand and packaging design.
  • March 2020 – First allocations will be finalized and a private barrel tasting of the 2018 vintage will be hosted. Those registered on our mailing list will receive more information and a personal invitation to this event once details are determined. 
  • Late Fall 2020 – First release of Red Mountain Elevated Wines, all wines will be shipped. Release event date TBD.

All of us at the Red Mountain Elevated project team are thrilled with the progress we are making. The wines in barrel are some of the most compelling we have ever produced. Time will tell and patience is something you learn in the wine business. We have a lot of work to do before March of 2020, when we will be able to share the exciting results of this new project with you.
